Right from the start, I knew I would enjoy this book because of the author’s bio page. It caught my attention because of its unique presentation of Emily Neuburger, the author. It is a list of the things she loves and enjoys and that list makes up the essence of who she is. I instantly felt like I knew her in a warm, cozy kind of way as though we’d gotten to know one another over a cup of tea.
In describing what a journal is, Emily says, “My journal pages are the closest I can get to taking a photo of what is going on inside my brain…”. What an apt description!
Filled with creative ideas and encouragement to think outside the box, Journal Sparks is more than just mere journaling prompts. It’s playful, creative and fun and gives you and anyone who peeks into your journal a taste of your personality.
Artsy journaling has always been intimidating to me because I don’t consider myself artistic and I become too perfectionistic in the process but this book and the tons of ideas it contains eases my mind and left me thinking that I could create art that represents my thoughts, surroundings, and personality. For those like me that love words, Neuburger encourages word collection journal pages as well as your own “I Am…” page (like her author page).
The colors, the kind, encouraging words and the variety of ideas makes this book a must-have for seasoned journalers and newbies alike! This would make an excellent present for kids, teens, and adults.
